The 2024 Australian Jumping Championships kicked off today at Willinga Park, at Bawley Point on the New South Wales South Coast. The weather was perfect, with the warm spring sunshine complimenting the impressive grounds. A perfect way to get 5 days of Jumping from Australia’s best horses and athletes underway.

Competition was spread across two arenas. The main Showjumping Arena and the Yandoo Equestrian Services Arena 2.

Competition got underway on the main Showjumping Arena with the Australian Young Rider, Senior Rider and Junior Rider first round. They opened with Article 239 speed rounds.

The Redleaf Lodge Australian Young Rider Championship was taken out by Charlie Magnier and QUINN Z with a clear round in 70.42. Second  was Charlie Magnier with NOTRE DAME DE BOURGUIGNON in 73.59 without a rail. Jack Barker and TULARA ON TREND were third with a clear round in 73.97.

The next class on the main arena was round 1 of the Australian Senior Championship. Tom McDermott and COOLEY GANGSTER flew around the course in 79.97 to take the win with a clear round. In 2nd was Phillip Lever and BILLIONAIRE NZHP, also with a clear round in 82.84. Third place was taken by Jamie Winning Kermond and TULARA WAT COLBLENSKY in 84.60, also with no rails.

The third class on the main arena was round 1 of the Minks Estate Australian Junior Championship. The top 6 placegetters were all clear and it came down to speed. First place went to Imogen Lindh and LICAVIV with a time of 66.30. Tanner Robinson and CASIANA were close behind and took out 2nd place with a time of 66.44.

The main arena also featured the 1.2m Young Horse and the Open classes. The GPI Racing and Karaka Park Young Horse 1.2m class  saw the top 7 combinations jump clear. The winner was Sam Whale and KINGSLEA CENTROSE in a time of 37.49. Second place was taken out by Clint Beresford and OAKS CHINGO in 38.24 and third place went to Clare Anderson and TULARA CONGRINI with a time of 39.15.

The Lolly Kingdom Open 1.2m class was a sweet one for Rhys Stones and RIVERTON RED BALOU. The pair were the class winners with a time of 38.44 and a clear round. Following close behind to take out 2nd was Fuschia Criss and KS EMERALD II on a time of 38.90. Third went to Sue Coman and MARINE PARK KANNDOO with a time of 39.46.

The final class on the main areana was the Riders Cup 1.4m. All placegetters went clear and the winning time was Clem Smith and QUANTICO 12 on 35.05. With a time of 36.94, was Melissa Blair and SELENA C for 2nd place. Close behind, for 3rd place was Frida Lindgren and MABOBRI DE MABRIBO on 37.06.

The Yandoo Equestrian Services Arena 2 hosted 5 classes. The first three were 0.95m classes and the first one for the morning was the William Inglis Hotel Adults. The win went to Michelle Spiteri and ARALUEN GOLD with no penalties. In second place was Charlotte Inglis and CAPULET EGO Z and third was Olivia Sullivan with ATLAS E.

The Tomkins Auctioneers Junior 0.95m class saw 44 horses and junior riders take to the arena. It was clear rounds for all place getters, with Darcie Egglestone and PRIDE OF GOLD in first place with a time of 28.65. Amy Thomson and VIRSITILE were second with a time of 31.32 and Porscha Polkinghorne and DEVEREAUX SEA SALT were third with a time of 31.54.

The third class on Arena 2 was the Ouverture Sport Horses Young Horses 0.95m. There were 14 young horses that took to the arena and the winner was Courtney Scott and MIRA with clear rounds and a time of 31.2. In second place was Ashleigh Bennett and DROUGHT B in 35.06 and no penalties. Mack Rudder and JENJAN DESIGNER also had clear rounds and finished in 35.53 and took out 3rd place.

A large field of entries took to the arena for the Investing Solutions Open 1.10m class. Lori James and RESTAURANTER SHP jumped clear and in 32.32 to win the class. In a close second was Harrison Wessell with OAKS KOSMO in 32.40. Third place was taken by Lily Short and HECANROCKME in 33.11.

The last class on Arena 2 was the Lancaster Family Young Horse 1.10m. With a clear round and a time of 38.32, Tarah Lawson and TULARA COLLINI took out first place. Second place went to Zarah Ward Leahy and KENTAUR PANAMA BEACH. Tallara Cameron and MIMOSA were in third place.
