It’s the fourth day of the 2024 Australian Jumping Championships at Willinga Park on the NSW South Coast. The competition is getting towards the pointy end with the Australian Young Rider Championship and the Australian Senior Championship being decided today.
The day got off to an exciting start on the Showjumping Arena with the Australian Young Rider Championship Final. Charlie Magnier and NOTRE DAME DE BOURGUIGNON were the only combination to have zero penalties from the qualifying rounds. However, the combination picked up 4 penalties in Round 1 today which put them in second place where they finished on a time of 57.43. It was Jack Barker and TULARA COLCHIC to take the title, carrying 1 penalty from the qualifying rounds, the combination went clear in Rounds 1 and 2 and finished in 57.44. Congratulations Jack and TULARA COLCHIC – Australian Young Rider Champion.
The second class of the day was The Riders’ Cup. Of the 21 combinations that took to the arena, only three went double clear and finished on zero penalties. The winner of The Riders’ Cup was Jennifer Wood and COCAINE EGO Z, finishing the second round in 57.54. Second was Kate Rowe and TULARA CONNEKTA on 59.15. Third was Amelia Douglass and QUEL FILOU 16 on 61.04.
The third class of the show and the headline of the show, was the Australian Senior Championship Final. Phillip Lever and BILLIONAIRE NZHP were the only combination that didn’t carry forward any penalties from the earlier qualifying rounds, but they picked up 4 penalties in Round 2. Gemma Creighton and DADA DES BRIMBELLES Z carried 4 penalties forward from the qualifiers and were clear in Rounds 1 and 2. This put both combinations in a tie for 1st place. A two-way jump off ensued. Gemma Creighton and DADA DES BRIMBELLES Z pulled a rail in the jump off. Phillip Lever and BILLIONAIRE NZHP managed to jump clear and took the title of Australian Senior Champions. Congratulations to both combinations.
The last class on the Showjumping Arena was the Peachester Lodge Australian Speed Championship, which was held under lights. The evening class drew a large crowd to watch Clem Smith and QUANTICO 12 to take the win in 67.99, with no penalties. Second was Shimona Fraid and CASSINA in 72.32 and no penalties. Third was Tom McDermott and KRESCENDO, who finished in 64.48 but picked up 8 penalties along the way which had to be added to their time. This gave them a final time of 72.48.
Over on the Yandoo Equestrian Services Arena 2, Day 4 started with the Spira Family Emerald Open Spectacular 1.20m class. With four penalties and a time of 44.73, the win went to Lily Short and HECANROCKME. In 2nd place was Chase Naylor and FINCH FARM MILESTONE with eight penalties and a time of 43.96.
The second class on Arena 2 was the Yandoo Equestrian Services Emerald Young Horse Spectacular 1.20m. It was Michael Short and BELLE PHLYNN PARK CALISTO for the win with a time of 39.45 and no penalties in the jump off. Chase Naylor and WILD SPYDER went clear in a time of 41.94 to take 2nd place. Olivia Wiesener and DUKE OF HASTINGS were 3rd with no rails and in 43.41.
The 3rd class of the day on the Yandoo Equestrian Services Arena 2 was the Ouverture Sport Horses Opal Young Horse Spectacular 1.05m. In 1st place was Anneliese Wansey and GLENARA BACARAT with no rails and in 40.24. Following on, in a close 2nd was Frida Lindgren and TULARA BELLINO with no penalties and in 40.86. Eva Rasmussen and BIG BOY BOSTON were 3rd, with four penalties in 40.61.
The second last class of the day on the Yandoo Equestrian Services Arena 2 was the Anneliese Downing Equine Opal Adults Spectacular 1.05m. The jump off saw Charlotte Inglis and PALM BEACH take the win with no penalties and in 39.17. Holly Griffith and ACES TULARA DEVINE took home 2nd place, with no penalties and in 47.50.
The final class on Day 4 on the Yandoo Equestrian services Arena 2 at Willinga Park was the Queensland Family Pools and Spas Opal Junior Spectacular 1.05m. The win was taken out by Alexander Jang and PPP SEDUCTOR with no rails in a speedy 31.09 seconds.
